Rechargeable Retrofit Kits

MIL-DTL-M16377/53C, date: 27 September 2005, outlines performance requirements for a kit that will convert a SYM 101.2 Lantern into a rechargeable lantern, SYM 101.3 Lantern OR a SYM 100.2 to a SYM 100.3. Changes noted in new spec (1) Switches on rechargeable lanterns must be non-sparking or magnetic actuating and watertight (2) Rechargeable lanterns must have a hydrogen vent (3) All electronic components in charger/control unit must be sealed against gases and moisture. The mil spec states the Rechargeable Retrofit Kit, M16377/53C-008, shall consist of: (1) Charger/control unit (2) Hydrogen vent (3) LED assembly.

JMC has three options in Retrofit Kits developed to meet these requirements. The nomenclature and NSN are what you will find in solicitations and RFQ from supply depots.

NOTE: There are 3 different manufacturers of Retro Fit Kits for Battle Lanterns. If you are replacing a charger/control unit be sure you are replacing one from the same manufacturer as the original kit as they may not be interchangeable. If you are converting a SYM 101.2 to a rechargeable lantern, you will also need the rechargeable top plate which has the vent and the sealed PB switch installed. For the conversion of SYM 101.2 we recommend the Complete Conversion Kit NSN 6220 -01-481-3823.
